R3 Continuum is working with the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) to keep our consultant network informed and updated on best practice standards in Suicide Prevention.
The SPRC Training Institute provides an array of curricula designed to build capacity for suicide prevention in state, tribal, local, and community-based organizations. These high-quality curricula reflect the emphasis on training found in the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, and in that spirit, are provided most at no cost, to individuals and communities across the country.
Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk Workshops for Behavioral Health Clinicians:
Crisis Care Network recognizes outpatient behavioral health providers play a crucial role in preventing suicides. Studies have shown that a substantial proportion of people who died by suicide had either been in treatment or had some recent contact with a mental health professional (such as after a critical incident in the workplace). Yet many providers report that they feel inadequately trained to assess, treat, and manage suicidal patients or clients.
SPRC offers a one-day competencies-based curriculum for mental health professionals. Assessing & Managing Suicide Risk: Core Competencies for Mental Health Professionals (AMSR) meets providers’ need for research-informed, skills-based training.
AMSR is a one-day training for mental health professionals, including:
- Social workers
- Licensed counselors
- Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
6.5 continuing education credits are available from NASW, NBCC, APA and Continuing Medical Education Credits (CME).
Evaluations of AMSR have shown statistically significant gains in participant knowledge as evidenced by pre- and post-training assessment scores.
Participants reported experiencing increased confidence and competence in assessing and managing suicidal patients.
